BBFC advice: Contains strong violence, language, nudity

Am I ever going to see a truly funny comedy at the cinema again?
I rather like Mila Kunis's work and have found Kate McKinnon a bit of a giggle since I first saw her on Saturday Night Live so I thought The Spy Who Dumped Me had real potential.
But it just turned out to be brash, noisy and crude.
So, yet again, I was left with my ribs untickled by a 2018 movie.
Kunis plays a depressed 30-year-old who has been dumped by a boyfriend (Justin Theroux) who turns out to be a spy.
After he is killed, she becomes unwittingly embroiled in one of his missions which sees her dart across Europe under threat of being bumped off by a crime syndicate and the intelligence services.
Accompanying her is her eccentric best friend, played with gusto by McKinnon - meanwhile, Sam Heughan is the handsome agent who is on their tail.
In my view, the problem with Susanna Vogel's movie is that its makers try too hard to make its audience laugh.
Often less is more and here there are just too many chases and explosions, complemented by gutter chat.
It also zips through major cities at breakneck speed so the audience could easily be confused over whether the action is in Prague, Paris or Berlin.
In addition, I wanted to like McKinnon's character but to quote a line in the film she is just "a bit much" - and by that I mean her hair, outfits, stunts as well as her loudness.
No matter what I think - the credits give a clear impression that there might be more to come from Kunis and McKinnon.
I just hope that next time, they are funnier.

Reasons to watch: Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon looking like they are having fun
Reasons to avoid: It is a comedy without laughs

Laughs: Only smiles and a couple of chuckles
Jumps: None
Vomit: Yes
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 4.5/10

Director quote - Susanna Vogel: "Almost every movie with two women can’t just let them be supportive of each other. As you get into your 20s and 30s and you have these close friends that are basically like your family, I don’t just want to watch women snarkily bantering. "

The big question - Are we going to have to suffer a sequel?
