BBFC advice: Contains mild violence, threat, language

I wondered how long before global warming started to become a key message among movies aimed at children.
In my opinion, it is praiseworthy for the young to begin to have an understanding of the threat to the planet - however, it needs to be more than an afterthought as it is in Spycies.
Indeed, Guillaume Ivernel and Zhang Zhiyi's animation jumps through so many hoops in its first hour that its real point, which was presented late on, was a bit lost.
Spycies is a play on words - animals play secret agents as well as all of the other characters in the movie.
Its key player is an arrogant cat who cares nothing for those caught up in collateral damage as long as he brings in his target.
The consequences of one botched mission is a posting to an off-sea platform where his only company is a TV soap-loving, IT specialist rat.
The cat is appalled by his new partner but it is pretty obvious that his hardball act will be worn down.
And, so it proves, as they go in search of those responsible for nearly killing a white rhino and a demon who is turning anyone who stands in his way into ice.
Its media blurb suggests that Spycies 's 'reminiscent of Zootropolis' and 'has enough gadgets to satisfy James Bond'.
I am afraid the claims are exaggerated. It certainly is fast-paced and its heart is in the right place but, very much unlike Zootroplis, didn't make me laugh.
Its unique element was its environmental message but it skates over it far too quickly. Perhaps others will pick up that baton - I hope so.
