In common with many of the world's decision-makers, I am making it up as I go along in 2021 - the 11th year of the everyfilm quest.

The Film Distributors' Association is offering one of the usual guides to movies which would have come out at cinemas if they had been open but I am also referring to outlets such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Curzon Cinema On Demand.

The truth is, in common with most folk, I have no idea when picture houses will be open and showing anything like a regular list of films so I will try my best to keep a decent service going.

Norwegian rom-com, Asphalt Burning has made its debut on Netflix so Mrs W and I took it in on a Saturday night because we are in Covid Tier Four and there isn't anywhere we are allowed to go.

And I am afraid it didn't provide much compensation for a lockdown on a cold winter evening

Hallvard Bræin's film is slightly unusual in that it may appeal to petrol heads as well as fans of chick flicks.

It stars Anders Baasmo Christiansen as Roy, an extreme car enthusiast who makes the mistake of becoming blotto on the eve of his wedding and kissing another woman (Alexandra Maria Lara).

To make matters worse she turns out to be the former housemate of his bride-to-be (Jenny Skavian) and a damn fine car racer herself.

So, she gets the chance to snatch Roy's beloved from him by offering a winner-takes-all challenge at Germany's famous Nürburgring.

But first Roy and his family and friends have to drive from Norway to the track and encounter myriad high-speed adventures en route.

Asphalt Burning prompted thoughts of a cross between Fast &The Furious and Benny Hill.

There are plenty of Mustang-versus-Porsche tyres-] smoking and under-the-bonnet details from blokes who look like the old comic's ugly mates but are somehow appealing to very attractive women.

Unfortunately, there are only titters rather than belly laughs and it all leads to a very predictable finale.

Reasons to watch: Unusual to see a movie for chick-flick fans and petrolheads

Reasons to avoid: Isn't nearly funny enough

Laughs: Chuckles only
