Ten years ago today I set out on an odyssey which has changed the way I live large chunks of my life.

On January 1, 2011, I took on what I described as "the ultimate film geek challenge"... to watch every film which had a cinema release in that year and write a review.

At that time, I declared that some of my assistance would come from film companies sending me DVDs (they now send private internet screening links) and gaps would be filled by LoveFilm! Whatever happened to that.

It was a year's quest which just went on and on and on...

In the early years, I was a regular contributor to newspapers, radio and television.

Nowadays, it is simply for the enjoyment of myself and Mrs W but I guess it always was. I have, after all never earned a penny from it.

Mind you, neither have I managed to watch every film in a year. The closest was 2012 when I saw 661 and the least was 2020 and we all know why. I will be continuing in 2021 because I am not sure I can ever stop. The year I complete the quest will probably be when I stop.

But less of the waffle... what you really want to know is what are the best 20 movies I have seen in ten years.
