Ouch. I would have been more than irritated if I had spent £13.99 watching this misfiring comedy at the cinema.
But shelling out that much to see Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar at home felt even more of a rip-off.
Our Friday evening entertainment had been set up with a sense of anticipation because it was hailed as being "From The Producers of Bridesmaids".
Unfortunately, its avalanche of misfiring gags meant it fell miles short of that comedy classic.
Josh Greenbaum's film stars its writers,  Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, as the title characters - two fortysomething best friends who are made redundant from their dream jobs at the local furniture store.
The pair are incessant gossipers but the most exciting thing which happens in their humdrum lives is the weekly 'talk' club with its pre-decided subjects.
But an old friend sparks the idea of a holiday in Florida and suddenly they build up the gumption to go to Vista Del Mar.
And indeed, this is a break which provides a whole lot more action than they could have imagined in even their wildest dreams.
The Barb & Star relationship has comic potential but the film tries way too hard with a huge number of physical gags, romance, villainous side-plot, song and dance routines and a bit of friendship pathos.
One of its many out-of-place elements is Jamie Dornan as a soppy love interest who also happens to be the gopher of a Doctor Evil-style criminal mastermind.
In some eyes, this will add to the hilarity but Mrs W and I found it as bizarre as Dornan's accent which begins American and then becomes full on Northern Irish.
Indeed, Greenbaum's picture reminded me of those slapstick Will Ferrell movies which have occasional laughs but many more tumbleweed moments.
Then I spotted that Ferrell is one of the producers. 'Nuff said.

Reasons to watch: Quirky comedy musical
Reasons to avoid: Very patchy gags

Laughs: Four
Jumps: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 4/10

Did you know?
Kristen Wiig was a full-time member of the Saturday Night Live cast from 2005-2012, during which time she took part in 468 sketches.

The final word. Annie Mumolo: “I feel lucky that I have Kristen in my life. When you find someone you can laugh like that with, it’s such healing." Variety
